Project: Highland Landing

Carole Wylie is tremendously skilled in both exterior and interior design, space planning, site utilization and overall project management, producing high quality work that is both exciting and build-able. I first encountered Carole’s work when shopping for an existing house – seeing the genius that went into that client’s home, I knew that I needed to find my dream lot and allow her to do my own project.  Ultimately, when my requirements changed significantly, Carole was able to completely recreate another stunning design at a reasonable cost. I recommend her services without reservation.

We are fans of Carole Wylie Architecture. We had struggled with another architect who created an unaffordable design of his own desires, not ours. So when we found Carole it was so refreshing to find someone who would listen to what we had in mind, and then she worked her magic. We had decided the basic style of the home we wanted, and provided her with a very rough layout of the rooms with their square footage, trying to stay within the guidelines of our budget. We had compiled a photo scrapbook torn from magazines exemplifying many things we liked; then she drew from all the input we gave her to really satisfy us. The whole process was enjoyable, a mutual give and take from both sides. Carole put the complicated and demanding puzzle together, creating interior and exterior forms we love. For instance, she curved the long hall from the entry to the garage, put in a niche for artwork, and that way disguised the door to the garage. Brilliant! Carole was very timely with her responses, extremely professional, as well as very personable.

We think only great things of Carole Wylie. She performed remarkably well supporting our ideas, and diplomatically asserting her professional judgment as necessary.  While we thought we knew pretty much what we wanted, Carole jumped right in with us, then made insightful suggestions and wonderful refinements. She is equally adept with concept, structure, and interior. We ended up with more than we could have imagined, with her expertise.  Carole pulled together our dream house, and we will be ever grateful to her. She is a pleasure to work with, a true professional, and an amazing talent.

The October ’07 “Witch” fire completely destroyed my house, there was nothing left standing except the chimney. Needless to say I was devastated and ill prepared to start the rebuilding process. After considerable research and scrutiny I chose Carole Wylie as my architect. I have never ‘looked-back’ . Throughout the entire construction process Carole has been both compassionate and understanding of the human element of rebuilding under stressful conditions. I have found Carole to be technically, extremely competent. She knows all of the building codes and where there is doubt as to interpretation, where to go to for the right answer. County building inspectors found very little, if any, design flaws. But, Carole’s greatest contribution to my rebuilding was her creativity. She did not just design a “box” she created a beautiful structure, one that any current or future owner will be proud to live in. She has a knack for maximizing space. Carole’s artistic talents come through in many ways e.g. color selection for walls, exteriors, carpet, etc. She may be petite but she is a ‘burly-fighter’ on the construction site when she wants things done right. I could write a book on her virtues. Not only did I find a great architect but a great new friend.

Hi Carole,
We wish to “Thank You” for all the incredible efforts you have put into making this house more than we had conceived it could be. As you may remember, we interviewed 2 architects before you and from that first meeting you demonstrated the professionalism I wanted while listening to our ideas for what we wanted the house to become. We have been amazed with the thoroughness of your attention to details and ability to communicate with the engineers and contractor. There was so much more to this project than we had thought and you seeded to be there for every concern or question. The fact that your plans got through the County in 2 months is astonishing to everyone I tell. Again, a credit to your thoroughness. Because of this you have made my wife extremely happy and comfortable in her new home. It has become everything we have wanted in a craftsman house. Your vision made it fit into the landscape as if it was always here. And that is what we wanted as you know.
Please feel free to have potential clients call us if ever in the need.
Sincerely,
Ted and Victoria Van Arsdale

If you want a creative, responsible and respectful professional you should hire Carole. She will work with you to create your vision while adding ideas that will make your project beautiful and functional. Great work ethic.

Building a home can be stressful and expensive. If it were not for our architect, Carole Wylie, we would have spent much more time and money than we did. Our home is beautiful and functional because of the expert advice and follow-through she provided. She is artistic, thorough and a pleasure to know and work with.

We had known Carole for 15 years and never expected to use her professional services because we had already built our dream house in 1989…. but the Cedar Fire in 2003 changed all that. When we lost our home, she agreed without hesitation to design a new one. She listened carefully to what we envisioned, took into account our needs, lifestyle and budget, and designed a home that was a perfect collaboration of our ideas and her creative talent.

Carole assisted us every step of the way with the myriad of decisions regarding colors, carpets, textiles, finishes, appliances, fixtures, etc. She worked tirelessly to assure that every detail during the building phase was followed through on as designed.

We love our home! It exceeded our expectations and is the perfect blend of function and design. We feel that the finished result speaks for itself. It was no surprise to us when San Diego Country Estates Association chose our home as “Home of the Month.”

Elizabeth and I were referred to Carole by our real estate agent, and went to Carole’s home to meet her and to view first hand her design work. We liked Carole immediately and decided soon thereafter to employ Carole as the architect to design our home. Her contractual terms were reasonable and she had a pre-existing relationship with a general contractor whom she recommended to us for our consideration.

Carole soon visited the home site with us and took several pictures, which she placed together over her computer to form a panorama of the home site. She used the site visit and the site panorama to help her with the orientation of the home, the location of the garage and with the placement of windows throughout the home to maximize the view. Once the plans were finalized Carole helped us select the interior and exterior color schemes for the home as well as kitchen and bath fixtures and finishes and lighting fixtures. She was very interactive throughout the construction phase and helped us with the myriad of decisions we needed to make regarding the various finishes for interior flooring, ceiling beams, counter tops and cabinetry. As a result of this collaboration we now have a gorgeous home with wonderful panoramic views.

Should we decide to undertake something like this again Carole would be the first person we would contact regarding the design of the home.

When our house burned in the 07 wildfires, we were faced with rebuilding. One of our first calls was to Carole at Wylie Architecture to see if she had an opening for us in her schedule. We knew she was really busy, but she graciously accepted to take on the task of re-designing our home. From the very beginning, she was so helpful and accommodating, always taking time to listen to our ideas. Whenever there was a concern, she would sketch out an idea to help us visualize how it would eventually look. Even though we were rebuilding our house in its basic form, to fit the existing pad, the overall space planning and look of the house, needed to be re-designed.

Carole has a natural talent for looking at a possible room arrangement and seeing the very best solution while retaining the architectural flavor and style which was very important to us. She truly shines in exterior as well as interior finishes and accents. She came out to our jobsite to view the construction progress and when clarification to the contractor was needed.

We love our house and all the improvements that Carole put into it, from artful niches to unique ceiling treatments, to our extremely efficient kitchen. Thank you Carole, for helping us turn tragedy into home-sweet-home!

After the 2007 wildfires, we had the opportunity to redesign our home to take advantage of our beautiful views. Until we consulted with Carole, every floor plan created by us and by others led to long, dark hallways and an inefficient use of space. Carole’s first pencil drawing was so exactly what we were looking for that we both looked at each other in awe, and we did not change a thing! This was only the beginning of a delightful process of creating every detail of our new home. Carole’s design is wonderfully livable, efficient and takes maximum advantage of our views. Carole guided us through all the choices; flooring, appliances, furniture placement, paint colors, etc. Carole was our building advocate with contractors and her experience with San Diego County building codes made the approval process for our plans effortless. We just love our home!

I love my house. I love my kitchen, I love my laundry room, I love my master bedroom suite with it’s huge closet. I love my house so much that when the original home perished in the Witch Fire in 2007, my husband and I rebuilt the home exactly as it was. The only changes were in the finishes because the original finishes were no longer available.

The reason I love my house so much is because of the time spent in the design process with our architect, Carole Wylie. Each detail was paid attention to. One of my most vivid memories is the day Carole and I sat together and worked on the layout of my kitchen. We spent several hours laying out where each appliance would go, what type of cabinets I would need for storage. We two women working together knew exactly where to put things to make the kitchen perfect for my purposes.

Our home was designed with entertaining in mind. We hold large family gatherings and wanted a place with big, open rooms, great flow and an easy to work in kitchen. Carole listened to our needs and wants and managed to accomplish a design that is perfect for both large group gatherings or intimate cozy meals in our kitchen nook. The kitchen is big and easy to move around in – this was important to us because no matter what you do, guests love to congregate in the kitchen!

Our master bedroom suite is a dream! The bedroom itself is a good size with a wonderful bay window where I enjoy sitting and reading peacefully. The closet is HUGE – thanks to Carole and my husband! There is plenty of room for all our clothing and extra space for a built in ironing board, storage for specialty clothing (skiing, fishing etc) and hiding gifts. Our Master Bath is fantastic with separate sink areas for my husband and myself, a shower for me and a Jacuzzi tub for my husband. All of these areas were carefully thought out and planned for and I wouldn’t change a thing!

Carole was involved in the design of our home from beginning to end. She walked the property with my husband before we began, discussing how the house would sit to take advantage of the views and natural sunlight. She worked with photos of the property placed on the wall around her, always focusing on how we could best use what nature had provided with what we hoped to accomplish. The result is a comfortable, warm home with beautiful outdoor views, great for entertaining and yet comfortable for my husband and myself now that our girls are grown and gone.

From time to time, we are contacted by individuals who are considering construction of a new home, and the usual question is–who was your architect and were you pleased with the results. As you know, we were more than pleased with your design and with your regular involvement with the contractors, and with the final product, our beautiful home at 26531 Cherish Way in Ramona, CA.

Your ability to help us visualize your proposals, and your close monitoring of the contractors to insure that your plans were followed both with regard to design and quality of materials, all added up to a very pleasant building experience. In summary, your skill and dedication to the project not only provided us with a home we are very proud of and will always be grateful for, but also a close business and personal relationship.

Should you have a client who would like to look at our home or talk to us, we would be happy to make the arrangements.

It was a pleasure to work with Carole Wylie. It was our first experience working with an architect and interior designer to remodel our kitchen. She captured the vision we had and made it become a reality. Carole was creative in working within the limits of our space and our budget. She is a true professional and teamed well with the contractor. After working with Carole, I am convinced it was a wise decision to hire her because I think the results are incredible. Our family and friends tell us our kitchen should be in a magazine. We admire our kitchen everyday!

Project: Sears

When my wife and I committed to owning a Sears Hometown retail store in Ramona, California, the biggest challenge was finding a suitable location. The answer was to buy land on Main Street and build our own freestanding retail building.

At this point in our project, we were very fortunate in securing the professional and artistic talent of Carole Wylie to assist us in turning a dream into a reality. Carole listened to our needs and was instrumental in helping us create a building that we are proud of to this day, almost 14 years later.

Carole’s experience and knowledge of the many obstacles that can be encountered during the planning, construction, and completion of our project was much needed and appreciated. We would most certainly consider Carole in any future architectural endeavor.
