The traditional Santa Fe style and detailing of this custom home is accentuated by a contemporary flair. This project was featured in San Diego Home Lifestyles Magazine and was toured by the Navy's Architects as an example of "Green" design.
This residence was constructed with an environmentally-friendly concrete form system called RASTRA®. It is made of a lightweight material called THASTYRON, which provides a permanent framework for a grid of reinforced concrete that forms load-bearing walls, shear walls, stem walls, lintels, retaining walls, and other components of a building.
The Front Entry
THASTYRON offers insulation, soundproofing, and fire protection in one easy-to-install element. THASTYRON is also resistant against frost and against heat radiation. It does not entertain mold or attract nesting insects. 85% of its volume is recycled postconsumer polystyrene waste, which very likely would have ended up in landfills never to disappear.
This home features a fully covered patio with an outside fireplace and barbeque.
The master bedroom and exercise room look out to a private gated garden.
Path between house and garage.
Covered Patio with Kiva Fireplace
Covered patio with connection to the detached garage.
The interior is heated with recirculating, radiant floor heating and solar panels located on the garage roof.
The great room has a custom designed wall with a kiva fireplace, log storage and plenty of creative niches for displaying artwork. The television and stereo equipment can be found behind the cabinet doors.
The kitchen has a circular built in breakfast nook, cabinets that follow the gentle curve of the exterior wall and a painting behind the cook top that was created by the home owner and then protected with a sheet of glass. A walk-in pantry, craft room and laundry room sit adjacent to the kitchen as well as a rear door that leads to the detached garage.
Various ceiling changes and lighting choices add to the interior character.
There are unique niches throughout the house for the home owners art collection.
